Today on CNN’s State of the Union, Obama responded to these charges from conservative leaders, stating, “You know, I’m amused. I can’t tell you how many foreign leaders who are heads of center-right governments say to me, I don’t understand why people would call you socialist, in my country, you’d be considered a conservative.
It's ok if you are a Republican. These family values boys, these boys who hate everything that is done for the public good and just does not allow any public good to be done, and all the while they are constantly sucking the well dry. Call this guys office and demnd his resignation. Note on his website that he states that this is a "private matter". True enough, but, sadly for him, he is one of the ones that made this a 'PUBLIC MATTER" and now he wants to be left alone. Ha Ha Ha. I wonder how long he will last. He might be like David Vitter, Senator, Louisanna, in case you forgot, who got caught with a hooker whilst wearing a diaper, what a fettish! He is still in the Senate and Elliot Spitzer, also caught with a hooker, not wearing a diaper, is gone. WTF! Duvall was with a lobbyist (2) for Sempra Energy. Sempre will probably demand his resignation, they don't want anyone looking into their affairs. Wonder what he gave away. We will soon know. At least Vitter and Spitzer went with the women in the honest profession.
Please make quick 1 minute call demanding that he resign immediately.
P.S. I feel a bit sorry for his beleaguered staff, can you imagine, one day you are looking up to the boss who got 100% score from the family values crowd and the next day you find out that creed he espouses just simply does not apply to him. However, I dont feel sorry enough for them to not encourage you to call and demand his resignation.

While we all know that Bush, not Obama was responsible for the bank bailout with no strings, Obama really needs to impose some. This is outrageous. The banks really need to start lending some money to some people. Our economy really needs a big kickstart and if Obama doesn't do it, who will??

Prop. 13 was bad for Ca. As a homeowner, I have a house in PQ and the property taxes have more or less been the same since 1978. If I ever sell the house then the new owners will pay 1% of that price, but if they live there for 30 years or so, there will be no more revenue. Prop 13 is bad but what was attached to it was the 2/3rd majority to raise taxes and a simple majority to knock it down. We are a drowning State.

Alan Grayson is the best man in Congress, bar none. This is a man who is #1 on the hitlist by Repugs. Please read this diary from downwithtryanny and watch the video where Greyson is questioning Bernanke. What a smug bastard Bernanke is.
Jeff Sharlet continues his brilliant reporting on the bizarre christo-fascist cult called "the Family" which counts among its members some of the most powerful people holding elected office in the United States. How bizarre and extreme is the Family? Attempting to explain what it means to be chosen for leadership like King David was -- or Mark Sanford, according to his own estimate -- [Doug Coe, son and heir-apparent to Family leader David Coe] asked a young man who'd put himself, body and soul, under the Family's authority, "Let's say I hear you raped three little girls. What would I think of you?" The man guessed that Coe would probably think that he was a monster. "No," answered Coe, "I wouldn't." Why? Because, as a member of the Family, he's among what Family leaders refer to as the "new chosen." If you're chosen, the normal rules don't apply. And just who are known to be members of the Family? Men under the Family's religio-political counsel include, in addition to [John] Ensign, [Tom] Coburn and [Chip] Pickering, Sens. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and Jim DeMint and Lindsey Graham, both R-S.C.; James Inhofe, R-Okla., John Thune, R-S.D., and recent senators and high officials such as John Ashcroft, Ed Meese, Pete Domenici and Don Nickles. Over in the House there's Joe Pitts, R-Penn., Frank Wolf, R-Va., Zach Wamp, R-Tenn., Robert Aderholt, R-Ala., Ander Crenshaw, R-Fla., Todd Tiahrt, R-Kan., Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., Jo Ann Emerson, R-Mo., and John R. Carter, R-Texas. Historically, the Family has been strongly Republican, but it includes Democrats, too. There's Mike McIntyre of North Carolina, for instance, a vocal defender of putting the Ten Commandments in public places, and Sen. Mark Pryor, the pro-war Arkansas Democrat responsible for scuttling Obama's labor agenda. Sen. Pryor explained to me the meaning of bipartisanship he'd learned through the Family: "Jesus didn't come to take sides. He came to take over." And by Jesus, the Family means the Family... The Family sponsors missions overseas [But] the Family missionaries aren't representing the United States. They're representing "Jesus plus nothing," as Doug Coe puts it, the "totalitarianism of God," in the words of an early Family leader, a vision that encompasses not just social issues but also the kind of free-market fundamentalism that is the real object of devotion for Ensign, Coburn, Pickering, Wamp and Sanford, along with Family insiders such as Sens. DeMint, Sam Brownback and Chuck Grassley...
When they arrive in other countries, on trips paid for by the Family, at the behest of the Family, they are still traveling under official government auspices, on official business, with the pomp and circumstance -- and access -- of their taxpayer-funded, elected positions. Here's how a former National Security Council official who traveled with Family leader Doug Coe on a tour of Pacific nations described the Family effect in small nations where a visitor like John Ensign is a major event: "It reminded me of the story in World War II, where the British sent an OSS type into Borneo ... And this guy parachuted out of the sky and they had never seen anything like this so they looked on him as -- he had blonde hair and white skin and he was a white god who had come out of the sky to mobilize them. Obviously his side was going to win so they had no trouble aligning themselves." And their megalomania knows no bounds: Counseling Rep. Tiahrt, Doug Coe offered Pol Pot and Osama bin Laden as men whose commitment to their causes is to be emulated. Preaching on the meaning of Christ's words, he says, "You know Jesus said 'You got to put Him before mother-father-brother sister? Hitler, Lenin, Mao, that's what they taught the kids. Mao even had the kids killing their own mother and father. But it wasn't murder. It was for building the new nation. The new kingdom." Every once in a while, someone tries to make a case that American democracy does not face any real threat from christianists and theocrats, that it's all overblown.
Thanks to Jeff Sharlet, among others, we know that that is just whistling in the dark. These people are seriously demented, seriously un-Democratic, and seriously fanatical. Most importantly, they are not seeking positions of great power. They are in positions of great power.
Me again:
Isn't this krap just a mature, more sophisticated form of Social Darwinism that the monied managed to get even the "poor" people to agree on and vote for what ever the SD's want? There whole platform is "I have been picked by God" and because I have I can and do act in any fashion I see fit because God choose me and my pals (but only ones with money, and lots of it) and so matter what I say or do, it is all for God so it is all good. I think that you really have to be mentally ill to think like this. Didn't we used to put people in places where they would be save when they talked like this? Oh yeah, we did. Ronnie Raygun shut them all down.....

It was “Angela’s Ashes” that loomed over all things McCourt, however, and constituted a transformative experience for its author.

sHard to believe that our world has lived under the cloud of the atomic bomb for 64 years. I really didn't know this until today cause I don't normally think about the atomic bomb except when I watch episodes of the Twilight Zone or old doomsday movies, but those are movies which must have been watched and taken as fact (just like the tv series, 24) by all of the neocons and so they always know that if we ever have another atomic explosion it is going to have a happy ending..........we are going to be fine, the rest of the world will be in smithereens, but that is going to have no affect on us whatsoever! Only the good guys left standing, yeah! God, what has happened to the Republican Party, it's eating itself. Mind you, some Democrats are just the same. Warmongers.
The article I have attached discusses (among others) Sen. Kyl (R-Az) and Richard Pearle. They are madmen afraid of their own shadow and sit in the safety of their mansions and their high held positions of power in the U.S. spewing this krap while our young men and women go fight their stinking battles, ones they would never dream of fighting on their own because they are the "chosen". What an Insult to Women « Result #16 on Jul 17, 2009, 9:13pm »
Sarah Palin is bats**t crazy. I know lots and lots of men and women who will not run for office because they have a past. WTF! Look at the krap Sarah gets away with and this is more acceptable than having a past. It is my belief that people who have a past go, duh, I coulda had a V Eight, while slapping their forehead, because we knew we screwed up and know we will never do it again, we learned from whatever mistakes we think we made (mostly from our religious backgrounds i.e SEX). A lot of nonsense compared to what is going on today. However, we screwed up and only hurt ourselves for the most part.
And for all these people that aver that the American Way of Life is the only way to live, they certainly pilfer from wherever and whenever they can when it is suitable, regardless how far out of the country it is. Perhaps we should all run for office as "converted sinners" this is something the Repugs understand, after all, they have all done things, much worse than we did when we were young, which is so much worse at this late stage of their lives, because we knew we were wrong and at their old age, they don't thing it is wrong because they believe that God condones it because they have been successful. It is disgusting, and not a pretty site. I am appalled that they are old men, same age as me and acting in such a fashion
OMG, there is more..............why are these people obsessed with swords?
I guess it is because they think that swords are going to fight all of the evil thoughts that teenagers have. It quite all right to cast out all "evil" thoughts (masturabation, sex, liberal thoughts, caring about your neighbor, etc,) when you are young and act them out when you are older, because Jesus will forgive you.
I think that we should all run for office and tell the people that we have sinned, but we have seen the light, and we will try never to sin again. Do you think that would work? Or do you think that if you advocated for a job for everyone, a fair days pay for the work to you, a good education, no starving people in the U.S. medical care for all. The simple things in life. Do you think we could get elected. I think we can, we need to get out our message.

I am listening to Ed Schultz who is interviewing the heroic Wendell Potter all of the awful things that the insurance companies are doing to working men and women. Please believe that these insurance companies would not have been able to do this if our congress would not have made rules to allow this to happen. Please call all members of congress and demand a public option Tell them that our government is not for sale.
Take a look at this. The public (us) are calling congressional offices everyday and the volume is very loud, making the lobbyists and their bribe takers (our congress) to reak out.
Please call everyone and let them know you want a public option. Especially D. Fienstein's office. Keep up the volume, we can win this one. A fight is always hard expecially when you are fighting big dollars with little cents, but it can be done.
"But he says that tiny move has created a full on panic by the Insurance and Big Pharma teams. The clients who hire the lobbyists you have met have sent down the orders: Spend Everything!!! Kill This!!!"
It is important to the health of our Country and Democracy that we stand up and stop this stuff and back politicos who are willing to fight.
Nice to see Elliot back on the scene. He is gone cause he hired a hooker, the Repugs believe God said it was ok and they stay and their constituents don't pitch a fit. That is because they are all of one mind.
This is terrifying. Rightwing lunatics packing heat and drunk on their a**es. Yikes! Why don't we do something about this. We would be arrested for less. I guess I will stay away from Arizona.
More on The Family « Result #25 on Jul 11, 2009, 8:52pm »
I am very sure that Doug Coe, the head of "The Family" is having a conniption fit over the very secretive in plain site fascist Christian organization that he runs getting all of the media exposure caused by Engsign, Coburn and Sanford. I read Jeff Sharlet's book titled "The Family" and it is scary that these people are in control of some of our members of Congress, Democrats (Bart Stupak) as well as Republicans. It is amazing what a bunch of people who have all of the money get together with our elected lawmakers and for a few dollars do the corporations bidding and the hell with the electorate. Abraham Veriede, the original evangelical preacher. who rather liked the Fascism taking hold in some parts of Europe, thought that the New Deal was "god awful" pun intended.
Here is some more of an expose on "The Family", I hope you will read this and tell all of your friends to read it as well.
As the Republican Party implodes the public is becoming aware of a secretive Christian society known as the Family or the Fellowship. The group was founded in 1935 in opposition to FDR's New Deal and its adherents subscribe to a far right Christian fundamentalist and free market ideology. A minister named Abraham Vereide founded the Family after having a vision in which God visited him in the person of the head of the United States Steel Corporation (no, I’m not making this up). The Family has a connection to house on C Street in Washington, D.C., known simply as C Street. Officially registered as a church, the building serves as a meeting place and residence for conservative politicians.
Just discovered this on youtube.com. I have heard about but not seen the Arkansas Project but I will soon.
The Melon Scaiffe's are the Melon Bank, the Bank of the Federal Reserve who collects all of the money we pay into the Federal Government................ Sciaffe tried to destroy the Clinton's and, for me, another strike against Hillary is the meeting she took with Melon Schaife and then announced to the country how fabulous he is. Sign!
Jeff Sharlet's book is newly out in paperback and I hopefully at the Library, and I recommend you get it and read it. Tell all of your friends to read it too. This organization needs to be exposed for what it is, who their members are (when I talk about in plain sight, they hold the National Prayer Breakfast at the Hilton in D. C. every year) and the destruction they have caused our Country for the last 84 years. Krap, they have nearly killed it with the legislation that they have managed to written and passed by willing accomplices, Dems and Repugs.

I wonder how long the "whistleblower" will last. He will be ruined and disgraced. Net Neutrality « Result #29 on Jul 9, 2009, 4:00pm »
The Gov is ready to spend a lot of money in telecommunications for broadband technologies to be nationwide.
One of the stipulations of getting any of this money is "net neutrality". I was very worried about this and I know that the devil is in the details and if there is some way that the telecoms can get around the rules, just like the bankers, etc so we have to keep a clear eye on what they are doing, but this looks like good news for the public at large.
In other words, this money — your money — cannot be used by powerful companies like AT&T and Comcast to implement plans to filter or re-route you when you traverse the Web, via your land line or wireless connection.
What century are we living in? I remember reading a couple of years ago that in Mississippi a construction company uncovered this beautiful public swimming pool that was filled in just as soon as it was legal for african american kids to swim there. WTF!
I guess that George Wallace is alive and channeling. Just this week I read the speech he made just after LBJ signed into law the Civil Rights Bill i 1964. I am British, racism is not a problem I grew up with, so this rhetoric stunned me and then I read this:
I know we are not past racism yet, just yesterday, Steve King would not sign onto a bill acknowledging that slaves built the Capitol and he refused to sign it because:
“Last night I opposed yet another bill to erect another monument to slavery because it was used as a bargaining chip to allow for the actual depiction of ‘In God We Trust’ in the CVC. The Architect of the Capitol and liberal activists opposed every reference to America’s Christian heritage, even to the extent of scrubbing ‘In God We Trust’ from the depiction of the actual Speaker’s chair in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Who needs foreign terrorists to scare us. We are doing a fine job of this on our own. The elites always know what buttons to push and use it against our own best interests. I say WTF!!
How can these guys sell themselves for so little? I know that $90K is a lot of money, but in the big picture, it is nothing. Is this paltry amount of money worth your honor, career, your reputation and your seat and to keep it in your freezer fergawdsake. This is so horrifying to me. Our members of Congress think that $90K is a ton of money to get for giving the Corporations millions in business. WTF!!! They not only sell themselves out, but they sell all Americans out. I would call that treason. Any member of congress that sells their soul, and consequently ours, for a few dollars, even millions because then the corporations are getting billions, should be tried for treason.

The Promise Keeper « Result #34 on Jul 9, 2009, 1:18pm »
I guess a few of the "straying" Senators of the Repug Party were delighted by the events of the last 2 weeks. Ensign's, (R-NV) affair with his best friends wife had just hit when the news about Sanford (R-SC) "Hiking he Appalachian Trail" ha ha. Relief for Ensign, horror for Sanford and then, what daya know, Michael Jackson died and during all that hullabaloo Sarah (R-Nutjob) did her thing. Timing could not seem to be better for these guys. Our side resigns immediately, but these guys all have Jesus on their side and he forgave them. Look at David Vitter (R-Diaper Wearing).
Ensign is not getting off as lightly as he hoped. His best friend is out on the circuit spilling his guts and here is a video:
I don't care what these people do in their private lives. I think as a country we put to much stock in "sex" as the only thing you can be punished. Democrats are punished immediately, Repugs have Jesus, who forgave them, and they stay in office. It seems to me why our nation is screaming their heads off over a sexual dalliance, cause that is all that it is, they all stay with their wives, and yet nary a peep about the rape and pillage of our entire country and our antics in some parts of the world. Positively Orwellian.
What I do have a problem with is the hypocrisy. Ensign is a promise keeper:
Not much info about Doug Coe but I read a book called The Family by Jeff Shallit and it was an alarming read. The Family hosts the National Prayer Breakfast and I was relieved that Obama did not go this year. This is a private breakfast and is usually held at the Hilton. Bart Stupak (D-MI) is also a member.
I am not sure if Sanford is a member, but he, like Ensign is involved with the Family and Ensign is a full fledged member. The Family is a group held together by a fella named Doug Coe, who is the heir (and he's ancient) to one Abraham Veriede who started the Family to eradicate the horrors of FDR's New Deal (they have d**n nearly succeeded too, as you can imagine how much money has been pouring into this organization for 70 years or more).
Senator Coburn (R-OK) is also a member of the Family and he and Ensign lived together in a fancy house owned by the Family,, so either little or no rent. Coburn advised Ensign to pay up and get rid of this problem. (Why is this not as bad not as bad as having an affair?).
Ensign is still in office, Bill Clinton was impeached for a bj. Mark Vitter is still in office after being caught with a hooker while wearing a diaper (this dude has some issues) and Elliot Spitzer resigned. Something not right with this picture.
I listened to Vitter carefully, here is his video:
After WWII all waring nations signed onto the United Nations Universal Bill of Rights and Article 25 states:
Article 25
1.Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.
2.Motherhood and childhood are entitled to special care and assistance. All children, whether born in or out of wedlock, shall enjoy the same social protection.
The United States signed this Bill of Rights but we don't have a single payer health care system like these countries. Why not? Too much money to be made for the insurance companies, who today are spending $1.4 million A DAY buying our Congress. Why do they sell themselves so cheap? Are they looking at life after they leave office? We need Single Payer Healthcare now and we need to work hard at getting this done. The moneyed people are not going down without a fight and neither should we.
Jane Hamsher at www.firedoglake.com is fighting hard and has a handy dandy "whipping tool" to have all of us call our elected officials and demand action. At the very least, a strong public option:
Please go to www.firedoglake.com where you can get lots of information on how people like you and me are fighting not only the lobbyist money, but our Congress. I gave money and time to a lot of the progressives on this list and that, I believe gives me the right to contact them. Hell, as an American that gives me the right to contact them because how they decide, regardlesss of what State they are from, effects you me, and everyone in America.

This article and the embedded videos say it all. I cried, the majority of Americans are truly good, kind, caring, helpful people and the bad ones manage to take full advantage of that. As activists, we can and will change that.
All this from a country that has single payer healthcare. Need I say more.
